Circling Oahu

One can circle this Island in four to six hours, depending on how often you stop to eat, snap photos, shop, or play in the sand. Our first tour was taken in a City Bus 52, which requires only $1.00 plus our Medicare cards. Gloria took a few minutes for a stand-up nap while waiting for our bus. It was a good way to get a feel for the Island and talk to the locals about what to see. Our first tip was to get off in a small town and experience a fine Korean lunch at a nearby restaurant. We had a huge bowl of Mando Kook Su Soup. Ymmmm! By showing our transfer, we mounted another bus and continued our "frugal tour." By the end of the day, we knew that we were eager to rent a car and get back to the beautiful North Shore.

Golf is big in Hawaii along with surfing and all other water sports (number two industry). Tourism is the number one industry, and farming/ranching is number three. On our driving circular tour, we had our share of rain, but of course, this is the rainy season. Fortunately, the showers do not last long. Hawaii is also the land of beautiful rainbows. Cruise ships are frequently seen, and that makes the merchants happy. Honolulu, located on Oahu, is the Capital of Hawaii. In all there are more than 130 Islands in the volcanic chain that makes up our 50th state. There are many little roadside markets where the fruits and veggies are more reasonably priced than in the city. On some beaches, poor people are permitted to live in big tents, but they move move every two weeks.

The beach photo above depicts the place where Deborah planted her famous kiss on Bert in "From Here To Eternity."
