Tok, AK

Checking The Mile Post we decided on Sourdough RV Park in Tok. The owners managed the camp, cooked the food, and provided the entertainment. The pancake toss competition was fierce but loads of fun. Ken, the owner, famous for his pancake breakfasts, sang with his Georgia drawl and played his guitar. His wife and her helpers prepared beef stew and/or reindeer chili in sourdough bread bowls, and the coffee pot was never empty. We heard that the road from Tok to Anchorage was under heavy construction, causing long delays. Therefore, we changed our plans and headed north to Fairbanks and Eielson AFB. At a small crossroads grocery/deli, we had lunch and learned that the store was busy providing food for people traveling to the State Fair in Fairbanks. The fair would be a definite attraction for us. Upon leaving Tok, we spotted a moose cow and her calf.

Since Eielson AFB is about 20 miles south of Fairbanks, we elected to move on and camp in the city. We did stay long enough on base to do laundry, use their Wi-Fi, and go to the BX and Commissary. We passed through North Pole, but did not stop to see Santa today; we’ll do that later.
